Indeed, having a rap voice that does not completely dominate the track and make your listeners come back for even more can have career crippling dangers. Two rappers that come to mind who have had their lack of a strong and commanding voice affect their musical longevity are Lil’ Xan and Nav. No shade to these gentlemen, of course, but we want to give you specific examples to help your how to rap learning process. Now, Xan first gained fame with his hit song “Betrayed” in 2017. His music is characterized by its melancholic themes and minimalist production, but critics often take issue with his lackluster vocal delivery and limited lyrical content. Some have argued that his weak voice and unpolished rapping style have prevented him from reaching his full potential as an artist. Similarly, although being responsible as both a producer and artist for some mega hits, Nav has faced criticism for his monotone voice and repetitive flows, which some argue limit his overall appeal and versatility as an artist. Therefore, in order to master your rap voice NOW and not face the danger of fading into relative obscurity right after you make it big, let’s give you specific step-by-step tips to improve your rap voice to practice now. In order to go from “beginner to advanced” with rap voice, arguably the most important technique is focusing on the last word of each bar. This approach serves to strengthen the overall delivery of your lines by maintaining energy until the very end. Let’s break down how to apply this technique to your rap game: Start by dissecting your lyrics and pay close attention to the last word of each bar. As you practice rapping your verse, make a conscious effort to emphasize the final word in every line. Experiment with various approaches to highlighting that last word, such as increasing your volume, adding a distinct inflection, or altering your tone. Record yourself performing your verse with this technique, allowing you to analyze and refine your delivery. Continue practicing and fine-tuning the emphasis on the last word until it becomes second nature in your rap performance. Now that you know this track, it’s time to put this technique to the test and witness the transformation in your rap voice. By focusing on the last word of each bar, you’ll not only sound more commanding, but you’ll also start captivating your audience with an undeniable presence. If you've wanted to learn how to start rapping, are searching for a great rap tutorial, or even just want to learn more technical aspects of how to improve your rap voice, this is the video for you. Our channel is designed to teach you how to rap for beginners, how to write a rap song, how to start a rap career, and much more. Enjoy! FULL ARTICLE ON THIS TOPIC: 🤍 The Fundamental Components of Great Rap Delivery: “EET” The first thing you’ll need to understand is what the main components of a great rap voice are so that you can identify which part you are lacking in or would like to improve on and focus on that. I’ve created an easy to remember acronym for this which I call, “EET”. EET stands for… ENERGY EMPHASIS TONE All of the components of EET comprise what is commonly known as vocal delivery in rap… or for causal fans, simply, “rap voice”. Now, let’s breakdown what each of these means and what to focus on to improve your rap voice. 90% of beginning rappers are simply TOO quiet when they first start off rapping and it comes off very insecure and amateurish. Now, when you get more experienced and know how to project your voice properly and get enough air into your lungs… …You’ll be able to tone it back and get a more relaxed, chill amount of energy and still sound confident, much like rappers such as Nas, Snoop Dogg, or even Drake are able to do. But as a beginning artist I would suggest your first priority to master rap voice is to learn to project your voice LOUDLY so that you know how to “dominate” a beat when you hear it. Visualize How “Far” Your Voice Is Traveling Let me give you a quick exercise to help you improve your vocal energy if that’s an issue. The first thing I would suggest is begin rapping your verses, project your voice, and try to visualize how far your voice is traveling. If you are a beginner and nervous, I would bet your voice is only landing about one to two feet in front of you. Imagine there is a red line on the floor in front of you and push your voice out more to try to make it land as far as five, six, or even ten feet away. Imagine you are trying to yell at someone in another room in your house. While you may feel like you are sounding over-the-top… How To Improve Your Rap Voice ENERGY When someone first decides to become a rapper, one of the first things I usually have to tell them is that they simply need to be LOUDER. Vocal energy refers to the actual VOLUME of your voice when rapping. …This exercise is simply to get you used to rapping at a high volume, and then with the other tips we’re about to give you, we’ll train you how to avoid just sounding like you’re screaming. Even better, if you can get a friend or fellow rapper to stand six to ten feet away from you and listen, let them tell you how you sound from that distance. In person references are always better than just by yourself. Practice Getting Louder The most important thing to understand with this section is that your current IMPRESSION of how loud you are is not necessarily the actual FACT of how loud you are. Much like you might record yourself and think you sound good but then when you listen back to you don’t like… …You can’t simply think that you’re actually at full vocal energy volume just because you initially THINK you are. Now, most rap voice trainings online (unfortunately including some of our own) are limited to only giving a list of tips on how to improve your rap voice… But they don’t actually give LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS of how it would sound once you actually make the changes we’re going to teach you today. Get VIP Access To The World's 1st Social Network ONLY For Rappers (PERSONAL COACHING HERE): 🤍 Introduction 1:37 #1 If Your Rap Voice Is Too Weak 5:08 Get Personal Rap Coaching 5:38 #2 If Your Rap Voice Isn't Smooth 9:12 #3 If Your Rap Voice Is Too Loud Now, if you’re watching a video like this I’m going to assume that you either don’t like your rap voice or feel like it could use a major improvement. Usually the people who struggle with this fall into three main categories: You Think Your Rap Voice Is Too Weak (or Soft) You Think Your Rap Voice Isn’t “Smooth” (No swag / drip) Your Rap Voice Is Too Loud Of course in order to offer you the most value since you chose to click on us at How To Rap, we have to break each of these down, starting with the most common one… #1 You Think Your Rap Voice Is Too Weak Okay so after having rapped professionally for over 10 years, traveling to 15 countries from rap and more importantly coaching more than 1,000 rappers… I find usually the people who have rap voices that are too weak are often not setting up their recording process or practice routine for success. They are usually recording in their bedroom with people in the house (if they’re like a student or something), or they’re not utilizing their mic right to help “force” them to get louder, and so forth. Let’s listen to a quick example of what this might sound like, where I am purposefully rapping TOO QUIETLY, too close to the mic, and not projecting my voice well. Now, if your problem is that you’re in a bedroom or a dorm or somewhere that is harder to “force” yourself to get loud… I’m going to suggest a change in the physical location of where you’re rapping from. That means I want you to: - Turn Up The Gain - Turn Up The Phones First turn up the gain (recording volume) on your microphone and give yourself an additional, let’s say six inches away from the mic (no homo)… And then second, turn up the music to a louder volume wherein you will have to COMPENSATE for the distance change the volume of the music in order to make sure the mic catches your rhymes.

Although there are a lot of videos on YouTube that say they can show you “how to find your rap voice” or how to “sound better when you rap”… It seems like nobody has provided a framework online to TEST how to KNOW you have a good rap voice when you’ve been working on it. Like, how are you supposed to “find your rap voice” or “sound better when you rap” when you don’t even know when and if you’ve already FOUND it or already sound GOOD enough in your rap voice to move on to promoting your music and making money off of this rap thing, and… Making money in rap is the point, isn’t it? - Rap Voice Mastery: Sign Up And Get It As a FREE BONUS: - Master The Art of Freestyle Rap In 2 Weeks In Less (FREESTYLE COURSE): - Full Article On How To Know You Have A Good Rap Voice In 10 Mins. Or Less: 🤍 The key indicator of if somebody is a beginner or amateur level of rapper, when it comes to rap voice, is if they rap in a monotone voice on every track with NO inflection whatsoever. Sometimes that means the person just RAPS LOUD CONSTANTLY TO TRY TO SOUND CONFIDENT with no inflection changes or vocal dynamics… But very commonly that means they rap like a dead fish flopping on the sidewalk out of their water tank and every… word… is… spoken in the same… fashion… And overall it’s just boring. As someone who has not only been coaching rappers from around the world for almost a decade now on this, YouTube’s most subscribed channel on How To Rap, but also personally having rapped professionally on everything from global tours to ghostwriting… Looking back on my career, I found that one of the MAIN ways I realized that I had gone from amateur, beginner-level in rap to advanced and even professional grade was: I Could Instantly Add Inflections To ANY Word When I Rapped Think about it: When you think of any rap artist considered at that GOAT level, the greatest of all time household name types… Every single one is known for some sort of unique vocal inflection point to the point you can LITERALLY impersonate them by just doing ONE of their known “voices” or vocal inflections. Whether it’s 2Pac’s “hennnesssyyy, enemiessssss”, Eminem’s high pitched “hi kids! Do you like violence” or Kendrick’s alien-“I am a sinner” robot voice… Every single artist has inflection styles across their career that helps not only give them more creative flexibility, but BRAND their music so you KNOW it’s them on the track. Let me give you a key tip right here right now to help improve your rap voice using inflection. Format Your Writing To Fit Your Voice When you write down your bars or type them out on a phone, use FORMATTING changes in order to force yourself as you rap them out loud to remember to change your vocal inflection. That could be something as simple as stretching out a word, so if I say the name of this channel in my rap and I want to stretch the last word out, “how to rap”… I would write in my phone as: HOW TO RAAAAAAP Or that could be something more complex, such as writing the words in bold I want to say in a more intense voice or making the words in CAPS that I want to YELL, just like you would when reading a text when people use caps. It makes them look CRAZY like they’re having a meltdown when they write texts in all caps, and you can literally “hear” them yelling through the text in your mind… So why would you use the same text trick for rap vocal inflection? Now, if you’re one of those people from outer space that doesn’t write down their bars and just goes in the booth like Jay-Z and Lil’ Wayne, not to worry. You can also use this technique by visualizing the words in your rap that you’re thinking using colors. So again, if you want to make sure you use inflection on the word “rap” in the phrase “how to rap”… Then simply VISUALIZE the word “rap” in red, like: “How To RAP” (rap in red letters) And practice the use of visualization to get the same effect. Point is, your first test in learning how to know if you have a good rap voice is by testing your inflection abilities both with yourself and with others Full Article On How To Know You Have A Good Rap Voice In 10 Mins. Rap Voice Mastery (BONUS FREE COURSE): 🤍 In this video, we'll show you how to find your rap voice in rap music if you're considering trying to become a rapper or currently learning how to be a rapper. This musical genre has been underappreciated from an educational standpoint so the channel How To Rap hopes to do videos like this on finding your rap voice as well as how to improve your rap lyrics to help you learn how to rap better... how to freestyle rap for beginners... and much more. Enjoy! Lesson #1: Rap Voice CAN Be Improved The first thing you need to know is that your rap voice CAN improved over time. The most common concern I hear from new rappers on this website is that they “don’t like their rap voice” and that they’re scared they can NEVER improve it. Most often this someone who feels like their voice isn’t STRONG enough or doesn’t interact with the beat in a “slick” manner, and so even if their rhymes or songs are good, this person feels like they’ll never be a good rapper because they don’t like their voice. Now, there’s two sides to the concern that I’d like to discuss: A) You CAN Improve Your Rap Voice Whether it’s a matter of deepening the voice through repetition and focus attention or whether it’s learning “which voice to choose” for the beat, you CAN improve the ability to sound SLICK on a rap track… …You just have to understand that it’s a skill like anything else. Think of it like going to the gym. You might be a skinny little twig right now but your body is NATURALLY built WITH muscles, you just need to lift weights to activate the body and the muscles WILL show, because they’re on your body. Similarly your voice DOES have deeper, slicker parts of it, you just need to help them “show” through practice and repetition. FULL ARTICLE HERE: 🤍 B) Your Voice Might Sound Better To Others Just because you don’t like your voice doesn’t mean other people won’t. The ability to enjoy your voice is also a skill like anything else… …And FURTHERMORE… sometimes people enjoy your voice at times when you don’t, just like when you get a compliment on a piece of clothing you’re wearing that YOU might not think is fresh but people randomly say, “That looks good on you”. Don’t only trust your OWN opinion on your rap voice, play your music for others and see how they feel before you personally decide, “I HAVE A BAD RAP VOICE”. Lesson #2: Delivery vs. Voice There IS a difference between rap DELIVERY and rap VOICE or VOCAL TONE. In lesson #1 we discussed the idea that you may not like your “rap voice” which usually revolves around not enjoying your personal tone or “timbre” of your voice. Vocal tone has more to do with the placement of the voice overall, i.e., deep, high-pitched, raspy, etc. Vocal DELIVERY is how you CHOOSE to use that tone to emphasize certain words and what to put attention on through the emphasis of your words. Both of these components are important points of overall having great vocals as a rapper, but I want you to separate them in your mind so you know what to practice. Now, in order to improve your DELIVERY specifically, let’s give you a quick tip in lesson #3… Lesson #3: Focus On Adjusting Individual Words The easiest way to improve your rap DELIVERY is to practice emphasizing certain words differently than others. In English class in school, sometimes they call this “stressed syllables” vs. “unstressed syllables”. So, for example… if I have a rap bar that goes, “Yo, my name is Drew”… I could emphasize the word, “YO” to bring attention to the beginning of the bar and make it feel like a command to the audience to listen up… …Or more often, I would play with the emphasis on the word, “DREW” in other words the end of the bar or the rhyming word to add some musicality to the rhyming words of the rap. “Prior to me going in and recording the record, everything is 80% premeditated first, before I actually put the words over the reference track or go in the studio to lay down vocals. Everything for me is about execution, ‘cause’ I can do in with a million ideas but if I’m not executing it right, it doesn’t feel home to me y’know so, I like to put a lot of different things, wordplays and messages in my music because I want to live further than two weeks." - Kendrick Lamar talking to Zane Lowe - Rap Voice Mastery (FREE BONUS COURSE ON THIS PAGE): 🤍 - TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 Kendrick Lamar Teaches How To Improve Your Rap Voice Quote 1 0:57 #1 Embody The Musical Experience Through Your Voice 2:57 Kendrick Lamar Fans Discuss His Rap Voice 3:40 Rap Voice Course 6:28 Kendrick Lamar Teaches How To Improve Your Rap Voice Quote 2 Kendrick Lamar Teaches How To Improve Your Rap Voice Quote 3 7:01 #2 Take Ownership of Your Performance 7:04 The Weeknd Talks About Kendrick Lamar's Voice 9:26 #3 Believe In Your Vocal Abilities 9:29 Kendrick Lamar Teaches How To Improve Your Rap Voice Quote 4 12:53 Comment Below - Full Article On Kendrick Lamar Teaches How To Improve Your Rap Voice: 🤍 Since the outset of his career, the Compton native has captivated listeners with his diverse array of flows and capacity to get to the very heart of a social, political or personal issue with an acuity that no other MC possesses. But, alongside these commonly employed tools, K-Dot is a man who utilizes the full scope of his vocal cords in a way that MC’s who are less artistically inclined may not even consider. Where many artists would lead with braggadocio or an air of menace as a rule of thumb, Lamar uses his voice as the tool in a way that doesn’t simply compliment his exquisitely crafted bars, but transports the listener into the emotional root of the track. Rather than just dispensing his words into the world with carelessness, Kendrick is mindful of the fact that how they’re uttered is just as important as how they’re crafted if they are to have the intended resonance. “It’s not tough to write…” he says, “when you’re writing from experiences, it’s like that!” He clicks his fingers. “The hard part is actually recording it because you have so many different emotions you may not want to pour out on the microphone.” Having revealed that “doing music is the only way for me to get that conflict out”, it’s no surprise that recording his bars is actually more daunting to him than the prospect of penning words. Seeing the delivery as every bit as crucial as the craftsmanship, what aspiring artists should learn from K-Dot is that you don’t just relay the lyrics, but embody the musical experience through your voice. Known to enlist the full spectrum of emotions and technological tools at his disposal, K-Dot’s method of recording and augmenting his voice for the song in question is closer to “method acting” than it is to what other artists do in the booth. Now, when used as the place where the multi-faceted nature of his identity as an “old school gemini” is expressed, K-Dot’s delivery doesn’t just emerge fully formed… With his tried and trusted producer Sounwave- revealing that he “rehearses the song over and over in his head so he can get the full feeling”, K-Dot will do whatever it takes to get the highest degree of expressiveness out of his vocal chords. As documented by Sounwave on The Big Hit podcast, one notable instance where Kung Fu Kenny pushed himself to the limits in order to deliver an emphatic performance came on the heart-rending “U”. A standout on the sprawling odyssey of To Pimp A Butterfly that takes in everything from feelings of survivor’s guilt to deep-seated resentment of the self, you’d need to be made of stone not to feel emotions rousing within you when you hear Kendrick’s pained, regretful rasp on the track. As to why it sounds so effective, it’s because he utilized his real-life pain of losing a friend to fuel the track, opting to leave himself in darkness in order to be alone with the pain. Conversely, the grief-stricken vocals emerged. Full Article Continued On Kendrick Lamar Teaches How To Improve Your Rap Voice: 🤍

Rap voice. Vocal delivery. Raspiness. Tone. All of these words describe that mysterious alchemy of skills required for a rapper to dominate the music with charismatic inflection the second you hear them on the track. In today’s article, we’re going to tell you 10 secrets about rap voice that nobody is talking about. RAP VOICE MASTERY (Free Bonus Rap Voice Course): 🤍 MASTER THE ART OF FREESTYLE RAP IN 2 WEEKS OR LESS (Freestyle Course): 🤍 TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 Overview 0:57 #10 You Shouldn’t Just Have “One” Rap Voice 1:47 #9 Technology Has Opened Up More Lanes For Rap Voice 2:38 #8 New Rappers “Under-Rap”, Old Rappers “Over-Rap” 4:14 #7 Engineering Is 75% of The Battle In The 21st Century 5:19 #6 “One-Take” Verses Aren’t Really A Thing Anymore 6:05 #5 “Write With The Breath In Mind” 7:12 #4 The Best Rappers Adjust Individual Words 8:44 #3 Ad-Libs Can Add More Than Over-Rapping 10:11 #2 Rap Voice Changes Over Time 11:02 #1 Rap Voice Can Be Improved 11:40 Comment and Pick Up Your Courses Sure, you’ve seen videos that list the best rapper voices, that tell you how rappers should layer their vocals like Pop Smoke, or simply press a “special sauce” button on ProTools and every voice issue will be fixed… …But few videos have provided an easy-to-follow list, based on a near decade of rap coaching analysis and working with artists from around the world… …The 10 secrets to rap voice that will resurrect a bad rap voice or explain to someone with a fantastic delivery exactly what they’re doing right. With that being said, let’s go in countdown order when discussing these rap voice secrets and begin right here, right now. Now, you have to realize that in 2022 and beyond, the best rappers in the world don’t just have “one” rap voice that they stick to. Whether it is the recent multi-voice symphony of bars delivered by Kendrick Lamar on 2021’s “Family Ties” where he says “New flows coming be patient, brother”… …When he really could have also said, “new voices coming, be patient, brother”… …Or that moment where you realized that every single voice – from the on Drake’s “No Friends In The Industry” was still Drizzy himself – from the trap like first verse all the way to drill sounding third verse. From the woman’s point-of-view voice on the third verse of J. Cole’s “Lights Please” to Eminem’s many vocal characters on songs such as Ken Kaniff, sticking to one voice isn’t just “not the wave”… if you’re sticking to one voice you’re behind the ball. Part of the reason for this is our #9 rap voice secret: Recording technology has expanded the possibility for rap voice beyond what 80’s and 90’s rappers even thought possible. Back in the 1980’s and 1990’s, Hip-Hop delivery and rapping in general had not progressed to a point where there was even technology available to manipulate the vocal palette to a considerable degree. Rappers honed their vocal skills on the block, in the cypher, and at best in an analog studio where they had to project more to get a good sound. This is why rappers like 2Pac, DMX, or even Run DMC were so straight up LOUD when they rapped. They learned how to project their rap voice on the streets of Oakland, Yonkers, and Queens, respectively. In 2022 up-and-coming rappers don’t have to do that. They have amazing technology at their disposal they can and should be using to expand the possibilities on how to find their rap voice. By now understanding how and why rappers use their rap voice in different ways due to technology, we can explain why newer rappers sound so “relaxed” on the track and older rappers think they need to overpower the track to make a point. This explains why new generation rappers like Lil’ Baby don’t project their voice very much on the music and yet they can still sound in sync with the music. They let the technology do the work for them. However, this is not to say that beginning rappers should not master how to project their voice properly. We’ve found that many artists who have been writing for let’s say two years often are not projecting their voice ENOUGH or using their vocal emphasis improperly. One quick pro-tip to utilize vocal emphasis properly is to go into the notes where you wrote your bars and put the words you want to emphasis in BOLD, italics, or underline in order to remind yourself you want to say them in a different way.

Rap Voice Masterclass: 🤍 What do the vocal cords do? When breath passes over the vocal cords, those oscillations in the vocal folds become vibrations in the breath stream. Which are amplified by the resonators and the result is sound formed into words by the articulators. YES! You're going to learn about vocal cords today! Does it make sense to you that if you know how your vocal cords work it will be easier for you to get a better singing or rap voice? That's why I am showing you how the vocal cords work. This way you can make your rap voice BETTER to start making your songs sound better. All because you understand how do vocal cords work. Heads up here, or really, throats up The Vocal cords are also called the vocal folds, same thing. First of all let's look at the positioning of the vocal cords. The general misconception about vocal cords is that they are UP AND DOWN. But it helps to envision and understand that they are actually flat. The vocal cords are locating within the larynx also called the voice box. At that sits at the top of the trachea also known as your wind pipe. The vocal cords are located mid way down your neck as you can see in the picture. There are 2 vocal cords and there connected in the front of your neck. Men can feel the top of their voice box, it's called the Adam's apple Vocal cords have length, width and depth and are made up of different layers of tissue but there is a TON of muscles you need to see that help you produce your rapping or singing. In a minute I am going to show you some really cool stuff with the vocal cords so stick around. But first I wanna show you what happens when you swallow and breathe. When you breathe, the vocal cords open so you can take in air. And they come together when we talk or make noises at all. Because remember, no noise can be made if the vocal cords don't create the vibration which resonates and then comes out of your mouth. That's how the vocal cords work. You're probably wondering what happens when you swallow, right? When you swallow there is actually a lid like a pringles can that covers the vocal cords to protect them. When you swallow In response to activation of pharyngeal pressure receptors the swallowing center in your medulla oblongata. Initiates reflexes that prevent food entry into respiratory passageways The uvula contracts which blocks the nasal passages from the pharynx. Then the laryngeal muscles contract which closes the glottis at the top of the trachea by tightly aligning the vocal folds. The epiglottis or that Pringle chip I was talking about earlier. Swings down upon the closed glottis Now to look at the vocal cords in action Song At The End Is On My Spotify :) Rob Level - WAIT! Do You Hate Your Rap Voice? Most Do And Here's why How To Find Your Rap Voice Video I Mention 🤍 The natural reason you don't like the sound of your own voice. We spend our whole lives hearing ourselves one way, only to have that completely thrown off when we hear ourselves recorded. We think our voices are deeper than they are. Our brains trick us into thinking the sounds we're hearing are lower than they are. So, when we listen to our voices outside of ourselves, on a tape or recording of some kind, we perceive them as sounding much more high-pitched and shrill than when we hear our voices spoken out loud.
