It’s beach fishing time!! In this video, I’m going to show you how to tie my favorite rig for surf fishing. I’ve fished from the beach for many years, have tried a bunch of different rigs, and this one is my favorite by far. It does take a little bit of extra time up front, but it’s worth it, especially if there are toothy fish like sharks or Spanish mackerel around, or if there are a lot of rocks or other objects to get snagged on. Before I learned how to tie this rig, if I got broken off, I would have to retie the whole thing, but with this design, if you get broken off, all you have to do is retie one small part of it. How to tie a basic high low rig step by step. This is a very effective rig to catch fish of all size and types. Works well in salt and freshwater. Pro Tips (review tips after watching the video): 1. When cinching the dropper loops (and really most knots) do so slowly, lube with water or saliva and do not cinch as tight as possible. You weaken the line and cause heat abrasion if you try to muscle the knot. 2. if you want a 3 inch loop at the end, make sure your loop is about 6 inches long before you start the twists and tightening. The loop shrinks when it is knotted! 3. Make sure you keep the hooks faced upward with the pointy tip facing the top loop that will connect to your main line. This helps increase likelihood of hook ups. 4. Use the right size hook for the species you are targeting! 5. Experiment with how much space between the bottom dropper loop and your weight. I have seen SO many people using this rig while pier fishing and I just don’t understand why! Covering the best surf fishing rigs, best surf fishing setup, that are most used and most effective for surf fishing. These easy surf fishing rigs can be used for beach fishing anywhere. I will show you how to tie surf fishing rigs as well. These easy beach fishing rigs will definitely catch you some fish if there are some around and ready to bite. I will cover the Carolina rig for surf fishing, which here in the PNW we use the Carolina rig for surfperch since we don't have a big variety of species in the surf. I will also cover the high low rig, surf fishing favorite for many. We will be tying dropper loops for our high low rig instead of using 3-way swivels. This process is quick, easy and effective and will get you back on the water faster if you have to retie you surf fishing setup. I usually prefer to pre-tie a few of my dropper loop rigs before heading out to the beach just in case, though in my experience i haven't ever really broken off when fishing the surf, that could very well be a different story on the beach you are fishing. i know a lot of you in Texas, Florida, North Carolina, just to name a few, have some fish that have the potential to break you off.... here in Oregon you won't find much that will give you a run for your money and really test out your surf fishing setup. Though these surf fishing rigs are used by most, these are great surf fishing rigs for beginners since they are so easy to tie and use.
